The outfitter for El Patagon is American-owned Southern Chile Expeditions. We know their rivers very well, and we can assure you that while you are with SCE, you will be in extremely capable and caring hands. SCE's approach is unique in Chile, or anywhere in South America for that matter. They have invested in a variety of specialized boats to match specific water types. This means you fish from the most productive platforms on all waters and in all conditions during the season.

The fish in this area take a variety of large dry flies and terrestrials, including Cantaria beetles, stimulators, hoppers and ants. They also voraciously take streamers and wooly buggers. Brown and rainbow trout from 14” to 18” are very numerous, and trophy trout to 24”+ are taken each week. Catches of 20 to 40 fish a day are common. Most of the fishing is accessed via floating or via jet boat, and the river settings are spectacular, with picture-book rapids and riffles, deep pools and high cliff canyon walls.

The floats are done on Catarafts which are based on two 18" inflatable tubes and a rowing frame. This craft allows you to stay over fish in super-productive runs with currents that would normally make it impossible to fish in a standard drift boat. Aire and Achilles inflatables, Wooldridge and Yamaha jet sleds and 18-foot Lund Alaskans round out the fleet. Their fleet of fishing vessels sets SCE apart from all other fly-fishing operators, as does the fact that their guides all have at least 8 years of professional experience.

During the last seven years, SCE has discovered many new and secluded waters. They have added to their land holdings in order to offer you access to these newly discovered remote and secluded Patagonia fishing venues. The most recent purchase is an additional 242 acres with frontage on two river systems. Currently finalizing is the purchase of 440 more acres that fronts on yet another remote Patagonian river system.

All territory surrounding El Patagon is comprised of large private holdings like our own. Unless one is a landowner, the right to enter these remote areas over private lands ranges from very difficult to impossible. Thus, the new land holdings provide access on jointly held easements locking in right of transit and enabling El Patagon to offer you some of the most remote and beautiful fishing experiences available anywhere in the world today.
