Lake Llanquihue's (pronounced Yan Kee Way) nearest and primary river, the renowned Petrohue, is believed by many to be one of the most scenic in South America. It is accessed normally by drifting, but it has numerous braids and many pools with runs suitable for wading. Fishing is usually very productive for both brown and rainbow trout. The river also serves up the occasional steelhead, Atlantic, chinook or silver salmon. Due to the variety of species, the fish size varies quite a bit, from 14” spring creek browns to Petrohue rainbows to 24”, to large salmon or steelhead up to 35”!
In general, anglers fishing from Yan Kee Way have three large rivers, six smaller rivers, two large lakes, three small lakes, a large spring creek, and nearby saltwater estuaries as options. Of course, fishing programs are structured to the season, hatches and local water conditions during your visit. The fishing is efficiently reached by floating, jet boat or walk and wade.
